Capability statement
Cybersecurity compliance and secure IT services for defense and government.
Porteon Systems is a veteran-owned small business in Chesapeake, Virginia that delivers cybersecurity compliance, systems engineering, and secure IT services to defense and government customers. Our two principals perform the work themselves, with hands-on experience authorizing and securing Department of Defense systems under RMF, CMMC, and DISA STIG requirements. We support Hampton Roads on site and customers nationwide remotely.
Core competencies
- RMF assessment and authorization. Control implementation, validation, and the documentation behind an Authority to Operate.
- CMMC and NIST SP 800-171 readiness. Gap assessments, control implementation, and documentation for contractors that handle CUI.
- Vulnerability and configuration compliance. ACAS and Tenable scanning, DISA STIG and SCAP assessments, remediation, and patch validation.
- Systems and endpoint administration. Windows, Linux, virtualization, identity, and device management, run to a security baseline.
- Cloud engineering and security. AWS architecture, migrations, least-privilege access design, and deployment pipelines.
- Data governance and records management. Microsoft Purview records management, Data Loss Prevention, and retention for regulated information.
- Secure AI integration. Large language model services connected to business systems with access controls in place.
Differentiators
- Practitioner-led delivery. The CISSP-certified engineer who scopes the work is the one who performs it, with no handoff to junior staff.
- Authorization experience from the inside. Our CTO has served as ISSO and ISSE on DoD systems, so deliverables arrive in the form assessors and authorizing officials expect.
- Acquisition literacy. Our CEO has administered procurement records under FAR and DFARS, which keeps our proposals, invoicing, and documentation compliant.
- Credentialed principals. Credentials include CISSP, CompTIA Security+, and graduate study in cybersecurity risk management and artificial intelligence.
- Local and right-sized. Based in Hampton Roads near the region's Navy and defense installations, and structured for simplified acquisitions and subcontract roles under prime contractors.
